Normal Isn’t Optimal

How “Normal” Gets Decided

A short excerpt from Chapter 1 by Dr. Nazia Mirza, MBBS.

Let me tell you about a composite of many people I’ve spoken with. Call her Lina.

Lina is a fictional composite used for illustration. Laboratory results require interpretation in the context of your medical history and the laboratory’s methods.

Medical Graduate | Former Practicing Physician | Healthcare Entrepreneur | Author

Dr. Nazia Mirza is an ECFMG-certified international medical graduate, former practicing physician in Pakistan, healthcare entrepreneur, and author of two books focused on health literacy and nutrition education.

Her professional journey brings together medical education, clinical experience, international professional development, healthcare leadership, and a passion for making medical knowledge accessible to everyday readers.

Medical Education & Clinical Experience

Dr. Mirza earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Sindh Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan.

Following graduation, she completed her house job with clinical rotations in Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynecology, gaining hands-on experience in patient care, clinical assessment, and medical decision-making.

She subsequently practiced medicine in Pakistan, where her clinical experience strengthened her understanding of patient care, medical communication, and the importance of health education.

She also successfully passed Part 1 of the Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) examination.

U.S. Medical Examinations & Clinical Exposure

Dr. Mirza successfully passed all three steps of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3).
